Björn Lundberg appointed Associate Professor

The Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology have appointed Björn Lundberg as Associate Professor in History at Lund University. Lundberg has been involved in research activities at LUCK since its inception in 2020, with a focus on the history of knowledge and education in the twentieth century. His research interests involves the history of childhood and youth, and his postdoctoral research project examined global consciousness and activism among young people with an emphasis on the circulation of knowledge about global issues.

Lundberg is a coordinator of the Doctoral Summer School in the history of knowledge, arranged held annually at LUCK since 2020. He has contributed to two edited volumes (Histories of Knowledge in Postwar Scandinavia, 2020 & Forms of knowledge, 2020). He is also a member of the LUCK steering committee.

Together with researchers from Linköping University, he is currently involved in Pathways to Global Politics, a project on the history of young people’s representation in international organizations.

  • The history of knowledge has opened up new perspectives on the history of childhood and youth, especially the various ways young people have actively produced and made use of knowledge for various purposes. The examination of young people’s agency and knowledge offers exciting new perspectives on the role of children and youth in schools and other educational settings.

Lundberg is a founding member of the Standing Working Group The History of Knowledge in the History of Education at the International Standing Conference for the History of Education (ISCHE). In 2022, he edited a special issue of Nordic Journal of Educational History: Exploring the History of Knowledge and Education.

In addition to his research activities, Lundberg has a keen interest in public outreach and writing. With a background in journalism, he has written essays and articles for several Swedish newspapers and popular history magazines.
