Knowledge and education

The history of education intersects with the history of knowledge in multiple ways, an aspect that has been recognized and elaborated upon in recent publications (Lundberg 2022; Barnes & Pietsch 2022). At LUCK, we see a clear potential to invigorate both the history of knowledge and the history of education by further developing these interdisciplinary perspectives. With the intention of illustrating how perspectives from the history of knowledge can bolster research in the history of education, and vice versa, we seek to develop theoretical and methodological perspectives concerning the circulation of knowledge in society and the role of educational institutions in such processes.

LUCK has arranged several seminars devoted to the history of knowledge and education and hosted workshops with international scholars. In 2022, a Standing Working Group at the International Standing Conference for the History of Education (ISCHE) was adopted to further strengthen research discussions on the history of knowledge and education. The SWG organizes panels at the annual ISCHE Conferences on-site and online, and is currently preparing an edited volume.
