Johan Östling has published a book on the global history of the university. Kunskapens stora hus (“The Great House of Knowledge”) offers a concise and vivid account of the long history of the university. It focuses on three overarching academic models that dominated during certain epochs and exerted an influence as a kind of model for the rest of the world: the Latin university, the German university and the American university.
